The Resident Inspectors programme uses trained L&Q residents to help us to review the quality of our services. Resident Inspectors work alongside L&Q staff to inspect key service areas, review how services are delivered in practice and make recommendations for improvement.
Resident Inspectors play a key role in ensuring L&Q services are delivered to a high level. They also support co-regulation by helping to ensure L&Q's Service Commitment is being met.
Why become a Resident Inspector?
Resident Inspectors have reported that they enjoy developing new skills and feel they are making a real difference. By undertaking detailed inspections of particular service areas you gain a thorough understanding of how we operate and an opportunity to directly influence our service delivery.
The training and support you will get as a Resident Inspector will help to build your skills and confidence in the following areas:
- Report writing
- Team working
You will also have the opportunity to learn about subjects that affect L&Q residents, such as equal opportunities, anti-social behaviour and resident involvement.
What do I need to become a Resident Inspector?
To become a Resident Inspector, you will need:
- to be able travel outside your local area;
- basic report writing and IT skills;
- to be able to communicate well with others.
How much time will it take?
Becoming a Resident Inspector requires a higher level of commitment than some of the other involvement activities. Resident Inspectors are expected to undertake two quality reviews per year, taking approximately three days each. Resident Inspectors are also expected to attend a one day training course at the start of the programme.
What support will I get?
You will be given regular training and accompanied on field work visits by a member of the Operational Support Team.
L&Q will reimburse any expenses you incur in your role as a Resident Inspector, including childcare and travel expenses.
