Management Development

At L&Q we recognise the important contribution managers make to developing our people. By on-the-job training, regular coaching and behaviour modelling, managers are best placed to ensure our commitment to people development is met. We invest in a range of management development programmes to ensure our managers are properly equipped for their role as people developers.

Introduction to Management

Introduction to Management is designed to help managers understand the initial skills and responsibilities needed to perform if you are a manager for the first time. The course looks at a combination of skills and behaviours associated with management.

Managing the L&Q way

This programme of short courses equips our people managers with the knowledge and skills to manage their people in accordance with L&Qs policies and procedures. It includes:

  • Managing Our People
  • Managing Sickness Absence
  • Managing Change
  • Coaching for Managers
  • Managing Equality & Diversity

Leadership Academy

Since late 2008 L&Q has had to constantly devise business strategies to deal with the harsh realities of reduced rents, increased interest rates and very significantly reduced government grant. L&Q Leadership Academy was introduced to develop organisational culture and leadership capability at all levels and to encourage collaborative learning and working as a core element in meeting L&Qs strategic vision.

2008 saw the launch of the L&Q Leadership Academy which targeted all people managers within the organisation. It was a 3 year project aimed at developing a new organisational culture. The business objectives were:

  • To develop leadership capability/behaviours fit for future demands of operating in the sector with a reduced financial subsidy
  • To develop a strong set of shared leadership and collaborative learning behaviours in order to deliver on the ambitious business vision set in the 5 year plan.

The programme was shortlisted for the EFMD Award in 2009 and was one of the top 3 finalists. In 2012 the programme was shortlisted for the Personnel Today Award in the Excellence in learning and development category.

In 2012 we reviewed this very successful programme and adjusting it to meet the current context and demands ahead of our business.
