Contractor helps to revamp community centre
Dec 11 2009
A vital community centre has been given a new lease of life thanks to the generosity of one of L&Q’s maintenance contractors.
The former Forest Community Centre on the Beaumont Estate in Leyton has been transformed with a brand new kitchen and refurbished entrance and storage area. The building work and funding for this was kindly donated by contractor The Seddon Group.
The centre was recently reopened by Diane Hart, Neighbourhood Services Director in L&Q’s North East Neighbourhood, and renamed the Seddon Community Centre.
The centre is the heart of the Beaumont Estate, which has been undergoing a major regeneration programme since its stock transfer from Waltham Forest Council to L&Q in 2001.
The new kitchen will enable new activities and classes to be added to the already extensive programme of projects which operate at the centre.
In addition, the kitchen has been finished just in time for the Centre's annual Christmas lunch for the older residents of the estate. This year, eight members from L&Q’s central finance team will pitch in with their Neighbourhood Investment colleagues to serve up a yuletide feast for local residents.
